The Bastard Moonchild’s demented thoughts and mundane stories

Mali ka do’n

I’m usually wary of text hoaxes. Before I make a move, I make sure that 1) if it were a promo, I’d look for a DTI number somewhere in the text message; or 2) I look for a name, most of the time someone I know, to determine if the text is a scam or not.

When I woke up this morning, I received a message from an unknown number at 1:54 AM. The message goes:

"meron ako importante sasabihen sayo di na ako makaka reply call ka nalang or share a load 5peso e2 new number ko,"

The first thing that came to my mind was that this was a hoax.

Why? Because:

1) The sender did not bother to write his or her name. My friends won’t be stupid enough to forget to write their names, especially when they have emergencies like this.

2) Typing a run-on sentence was a dead giveaway. I have never received a text message such as this from my friends. They would at least know where to put a comma or a period or any punctuation mark for that matter. That was taught in school, right?

3) My friends would never send me a hanging message. If they had something important to say, they’d say it outright. Or they’d probably call me. And they know I’m on prepaid. The only folks who would ask me to "share a load" would be my parents.

(I limit my reasons to my friends because my family won’t text me at 1:54 AM. Besides, they’re all asleep by that time. Or at least at home. And the only family member who’d not be at home at that time is subscribed to Sun.)

So if you ever know who has the number 09154323828, or it’s probably you, I’m sorry. But you should be smart enough to know that if you had something important to tell me, you’d won’t text such a message.

And to all of you, before replying to any text message from an unknown number, check if it’s a hoax or not. It pays to be a wee bit careful.
