Galera galore, part 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — kablagblog at 6:36 pm on Sunday, April 29, 2007

Finally, my summer is complete!

After a long wait, we have made it to Puerto Galera. Spent it with some of my officemates and ex-officemates who were suffering from stress and excessive heat, just like me.

So off we went, last Saturday morning.

Just like last year, Galera was full of people that you’d think that side of the beach will sink when all these people would jump at the same time. Anyways, we did nothing but swim and eat and swim in the afternoon, and capped the night, or maybe early morning, with a couple pitchers of Mindoro Sling (and a bottle of beer each for me and Fluxx). My SO and I got a henna tattoo, as well as my other colleagues Aye and Flo (who got theirs the morning after). And of course, no fun is complete without pictures. Camwhores talaga kami.

The following morning, I got the worst hangover of my life. My head was too much in pain that I did not know what to do. I couldn’t even get myself up and go outside for an hour of sunbathing. I ended up throwing up twice.

But that was all good. The experience was all worth it. I just wish that my other friends could have come.

But well, there’s always next time.

Till then, I’m treating my sunburned shoulders.

I’m usually wary of text hoaxes. Before I make a move, I make sure that 1) if it were a promo, I’d look for a DTI number somewhere in the text message; or 2) I look for a name, most of the time someone I know, to determine if the text is a scam or not.

When I woke up this morning, I received a message from an unknown number at 1:54 AM. The message goes:

"meron ako importante sasabihen sayo di na ako makaka reply call ka nalang or share a load 5peso e2 new number ko,"

The first thing that came to my mind was that this was a hoax.

Why? Because:

1) The sender did not bother to write his or her name. My friends won’t be stupid enough to forget to write their names, especially when they have emergencies like this.

2) Typing a run-on sentence was a dead giveaway. I have never received a text message such as this from my friends. They would at least know where to put a comma or a period or any punctuation mark for that matter. That was taught in school, right?

3) My friends would never send me a hanging message. If they had something important to say, they’d say it outright. Or they’d probably call me. And they know I’m on prepaid. The only folks who would ask me to "share a load" would be my parents.

(I limit my reasons to my friends because my family won’t text me at 1:54 AM. Besides, they’re all asleep by that time. Or at least at home. And the only family member who’d not be at home at that time is subscribed to Sun.)

So if you ever know who has the number 09154323828, or it’s probably you, I’m sorry. But you should be smart enough to know that if you had something important to tell me, you’d won’t text such a message.

And to all of you, before replying to any text message from an unknown number, check if it’s a hoax or not. It pays to be a wee bit careful.

My favorite “Hiro”

Took the "Which Hero are you?" quiz at Tickle.com. After answering a few questions, the result reads:

You’re Hiro Nakamura!

Such a dreamer! Even when you’re stuck in a rut, you still reach for the stars. Happy-go-lucky and trusting you may be, but silly you’re not — you’ve definitely got a practical side. And no matter what the future holds for you, we know you’ll have fun along the way!

Coolness! Hiro is actually my favorite character in the series. He’s funny, adventurous, smart, and he’s got his heart in the right place.

Can’t wait to see the next episodes.

Awww… down to the last five.

Go Hiro!

Still the Champ

The barren streets of Metro Manila is a testament to our ardent support for Manny Pacquiao.

Once again, he wins against his opponent, the ever-smiling Jorge Solis, via knockout during the first seconds of the 8th round.

Pinoys are once again ecstatic.

On hindsight, I said I wanted him to lose so he could re-think his career path.

But well, it’s a victory for our main main in boxing.

Now it gets me thinking… would this recent win be an indication of how he fares in the coming elections?

——–

Dignitaries are missing in action during the Pacquiao-Solis bout.

The FG’s absence is understandable (I would have commented on this, but I will restrain myself for now).

I was wondering where Manong Chabet, uh, Chavit Singson was.

Maybe he was too busy building up his image so he gets in the surveys.

——–

Nevertheless, the Pinoys in Vegas were supportive of his career path, whether in boxing or politics.

During the national anthem, a group of Pinoys waved a flag with "Vote Manny" on it.

Even Michael Buffer introduced him as "Congressional candidate Manny ‘The Pacman’ Paaacquiiiiaaaoooooo!!!"

But I commend the dude who waved a political poster of Pacman. Over the word "Congressman", he wrote in pentel pen, in bold strokes, "Boxer".

Yeah. Just an unsolicited advice: stick to boxing. You’re better off there.

Communication error

The primary reason of misunderstanding and severed relationships.

Today, it was almost a cause of a bigger error. And probably of snide remarks later on.

This morning, we arrived late at a meeting.

But that’s not what irks me.

It is the fact that the persons involved in the meeting were not properly briefed by the messenger.

I expected the other party was informed because I was informed, too.

But no. To my dismay.

As a result, we arrived late. But it was okay. We got through it.

Maybe I had a fault, too. Because I held a rendezvous with my computer while waiting, instead of constantly checking outside if the other party had arrived.

But the question that lingers in my mind is: why wasn’t he informed???

It was not my responsibility. I was not the messenger. In my point of view, it was the messenger’s fault.

But of course the post office would not claim responsibility for lost mail, right?

My temper does not subside quickly. I’m ready for war.

I don’t care if you get to read this.

It’s just that lately, you’ve been getting on my nerves. On our nerves.

I dunno what the hell is going inside your mind, but it’s actually driving us insane.

Changing moods, irrational behavior, your hey-look-at-me ways.

It ain’t cute.

Your old self is getting the better of you. Be careful.

Dogs are man’s best friends, but can still bite if provoked. Or if patience is stretched to its limit.
