The Bastard Moonchild’s demented thoughts and mundane stories

Couch potato long weekend

Filed under: Uncategorized — kablagblog at 7:57 pm on Monday, July 3, 2006

Thank goodness for Pasig Day celebrations, they extended my rest day. But believe me, a lot of things happened to me during that weekend, most of which occured at home. Kaya nga couch potato e.

#1: Bionostalgia
And why not? My childhood was not complete without these five color-coded Japanese heroes. So much that my SO and I bought a complete DVD set of Bioman during the last ToyCon. English-dubbed pa.I had a chance to relive my childhood fantasy of being Pink 5. Yebba!

Watching the episodes was interesting, in an adult’s point of view. You get to notice things you never realized were glitches when you were young, such as:
    - When Kenny first transformed to Red 1, how did he know that those were the hand movements he was supposed to do?
    - In the episode before Casey’s death, she only was seen once, inside the Bio base.
    - In the episode where Casey died, the actress who portrayed Casey was nowhere in the episode. Lagi siyang naka-Yellow 4 hanggang sa namatay siya. We figured, walk out ito.
    - In June’s first appearance as the new Yellow 4, she already knew about the Neo Empire. Take note, she hasn’t received any briefing about Bioman’s nemesis prior to that. My sister figured that they may be wearing name tags that time.
    - The Biomen’s human identities are compromised. Maraming tao ang nakakaalam sa tunay nilang katauhan. Kahit yung kalaban. Unlike the Marvel/DC heroes. Or even Ultraman.
    - The Bio Robot’s weapons are limited to the laser sword and the missiles. Unlike Voltes V which had a smorgasbord of weapons and artillery.
    - These Japanese actors have perfected one facial and body expression: that of pain.
    - You can see the harness in some of the action scenes.

But I gotta give it to these sentai heroes. Without Bioman, what of our childhood?

Am not yet finished with this. Still have one more DVD weekend left. So this entry will probably have a continuation.

#2: Going kulot
Yup, I decided to opt for a wavy hairstyle. Am tired of my forever straight and layered tresses. So I had my mom call our personal taga-ayos ng buhok. So far, it looks okay. I just have to, like, not comb it too much. Gulo-gulo effect it is then. Next thing I know, my name is already Sisa.

#3: Pacquiao-Larios slugfest
Didn’t care much about the undercards, though there was one dirty Mexican fighter. But anyway, it kinda felt weird watching this fight. Somehow I felt something was amiss. I didn’t feel much excitement unlike, say, that of Lennox Lewis or Morales or whoever else. I think it had something to do with the channel. I was so used to watching boxing on Solar or channel 9.

Plus the fact that this fight had too much unnecessary publicity, if you ask me. It became too cheesy for me. I dunno, it’s probably me.

It kinda got boring for me too, when Pacquiao went past the sixth round. I’ve always said that Pacquiao is a finisher - he KOs his opponent in the middle of the game.

And yeah, at the back of my mind I wanted him to kinda lose. Not because I have this crab mentality, but because I think his head’s swelling a bit. Buti na lang matiyaga si Roach sa kanya. Besides, Larios is kinda nice. And cute, too.

#4: Hello Toys R Us
The only weekend happening outside the home. My SO and I were supposed to visit the newest Toys R Us in Galleria last Friday, but since he got out of the office late, we decided to drop by last Sunday.

That drab corner in the 4th floor was transformed into a colorful area, with Tom’s World beside it. Going inside Toys R Us was like walking into Megamall’s Toy Kingdom, except that it was almost twice its size (haven’t seen Mall of Asia’s Toy Kingdom yet; that’s the next agenda). Same, same. except that it had more Barbie and Bratz dolls, lots of those infant toys and puzzle games, and no perfect grade Gundam models. And my favorite "Hit the beach!" soldier is nowhere to be found (only a few of you know this one, I think he’s still there in Toy Kingdom). Aww, sad.

So there. That’s my weekend, not necesarrily in a nutshell. How was yours?
