Let’s play pretend

Filed under: Uncategorized — kablagblog at 6:30 am on Tuesday, July 25, 2006

A lot of people tell me how transparent I am. Problem is, these people don’t really know me.

Truth to tell, as a Scorpio, pent-up feelings are my forte. Meaning if I hate you to the bone, I will smile when I’m talking to you while I concoct plans in my head to actually pull out all your teeth without anaesthesia.

Okay, so I exaggerate.

I only have this kind of feeling when people cross me. Believe me, I can be a really good friend, but if ever someone had the galls to stab me at the back — or even in front (wala na talagang natirang hiya sa katawan mo), I swear that if all the spells chanted on Charmed worked, I’d use them against that one person.

And there’s the kind who’d be really, really pretentious. They fall in the same category.

Believe me, I know when people talk behind my back. I know when a person would rather talk to that little short-lived fly that acknowledge my presence. And believe me, I also know how to play that game.

So, let’s play pretend. Beginning today.

Sorry, just too stressed to think straight.

Google Earth-ing Antel Global

Filed under: Uncategorized — kablagblog at 11:02 pm on Thursday, July 20, 2006

Wow, my 110th post. Ang daldal ko pala. Syet.

Anyway, this morning my officemate downloaded the Google Earth program into his computer. I’ve heard of this Google Earth some months back, or maybe a year ago, but this is actually the first time I’ll see how the thingy works.

Cool, kinda like the Enemy of the State, except of course I’m no Will Smith.

So going back, we in the creatives had a blast looking for our building here in Ortigas. Funny, that version of Google Earth doesn’t have "Pasig" written on it. All we could see was QC, Marikina, Antipolo and Manila. Hmm, so it must be somewhere in the middle of QC and Antipolo. Okay. So we went to QC and found QC Circle. Ah, so we were at Commonwealth. Okay. Then detour to UP Diliman, and then went on to look for Katipunan. After a few turns, we found C5, the intersection going to Cubao and then Araneta Coliseum, complete with the LRT 2 station. Alright, we’re on the right track. EDSA then. Santolan MRT station, on the side there’s Camp Aguinaldo and its golf course. Then People’s Monument. Then EDSA Shrine. Cool, we’re in Galleria already. Stop. Ortigas Center or EDSA? We decided to go the EDSA route. Then the Ortigas MRT station. Megamall! Yehey! Julia Vargas Ave. Wait, that’s a one-way street. Turn to Tektite. And then — that’s us! Antel Global! Yehey!!!

And that ends our Google Earth journey for this morning.

What have I learned?

This office has too many back-seat drivers.

Going biometric (?), among other things

Just a while ago, two people came into the office to demonstrate this biometric finger-scan log-in/log-out thingy (sorry, am not quite familiar as to what it’s actually called) that would probably replace our bundy clock. Our HR/Accounting/one-third of the Maverick Triumvirate was prompted to look into this gadget because of some unfortunate incident that involved some people and a time card (Fluxx, alam mo na ito). She was pretty aghast and irritated about what happened that she thought that having this biometric finger-scan would eliminate "cheating" on time cards.

Add to that tomorrow’s memorandum wherein all employees of this esteemed agency (‘di nga?) will be required to report in the office at 10:30 AM or earlier. 10:31 will be considered half-day.

Tough, baby.

And they picked a really great season to implement these. Hirap pa naman gumising ng maaga ‘pag tag-ulan. Great. Just friggin’ great.

Speaking of bio-thingies…

To my friends who commented on the previous post: Hehe! Super-fans din pala kayo. I’ve got a lot of people lined up, waiting for their turn to watch the DVD, too. Maybe I’ll try to have it copied so that everyone can have a chance to watch it.

And Rocha, errr, Tin-tin (hehe!): Ako si Pink 5.

Oh well, every girl who’s a fan wanted to be Pink 5 anyway. My sister is an exception, though.

The end of Bionostalgia

Ah yes. The gloomy weekend has permitted me to stay inside the house with nothing to do. Except of course to finish the 3rd Bioman DVD.

So what have I learned from watching my ever favorite sentai heroes?

1. After years of denials, I have come to accept that Farrah-Cat is indeed Cynthia Luster. She just had a different screen name then.
2. Pink 5 is the weakest member of the team. Yellow 4 has to help her, in fact a lot of times in the series.
3. Frankie (Blue 3) wins the award for Best Performance in an Excruciatingly Painful Sequence.
4. Kenny (Red 1) has the lousiest drama scene ever. And his previous jobs were being a scout master and a motivational speaker. Don’t believe me? Listen to his lines.
5. Got this from a website: the actress who played Farrah did some kind of "porn" movies prior to Bioman.
6. Another from a website: the actor who portrayed Dr. Man died of some kind of cancer. Forgot what it was.
7. The "antennae" on Biohunter Silver’s elbows had no use, except for killing Mason.
8. One of Japan’s famous actors, Hiroyuki (Henry) Sanada, made a guest appearance in the series as June’s Olympic team captain. He’s the sort-of right-hand man of Ken Watanabe in The Last Samurai. He’s Tom Cruise’s kendo sparring partner there. So imagine how old the Biomen actually are now.
9. The Mechagigans of Dr. Man do not have the ability to fly. They just jump high.
10. After the mission is over, Peebo leaves Earth. Where she’ll go is not established, since the Bio Star was already destroyed. The Biomen will now have to take on actual jobs. No more free food and lodging. Homeless, jobless — welcome to the real world, guys.
11. Lousy ending! Geez, Jetman had a better ending than this one. But hey, I love Bioman. That won’t change.

And so goes my current pastime. Now that Bioman’s over, I guess I’ll have to find something new.

Shaider, here I come!

Parfumus ignoramus… some kinda

Filed under: Uncategorized — kablagblog at 3:19 am on Tuesday, July 11, 2006

My officemates began a discussion about perfumes and fragrances when one of our artists bought a bottle of perfume, the brand name escapes my mind this moment, from an AE’s friend.

They talked about what perfume brands they prefer, what names smell wonderful or what kinda stings in the nose.

I could just listen.

To tell you the truth, I have limited knowledge about these things. Only a few fragrances are familiar to my olfactory nerves, such as some variants of Victoria’s Secret, Polo Sport, Burberry Weekends, Fahrenheit (forgive the spelling, if incorrect) and Ferrari Passion (which I gave my SO last Christmas… which does NOT mean in any way that he stinks or whatever). All other famous brands are alien to me. That’s because I’m not really particular with perfume. I don’t stop by and see what brand sells the most. Geez, I even snake my way through the fragrances section of department stores just to avoid those salespeople who are attempting to spray some on me. Besides, strong fragrances makes me sneeze.

And honestly, I really don’t spend for perfume. I just accept whatever’s given to me by my relatives abroad (hehe!), so I guess that’s why I’m not particular with any brand. Just the smell.

Besides, a lot of good-smelling colognes, which cost a lot less, are sold in groceries nationwide. My extra thousand bucks can go a long way.

Ergo, call me perfume brand-unconscious.

Keys me does it again

Wow, after the YouTube thing, here she is, strutting her stuff — and her song — on noontime television.

Eons ago, this Alyssa Alano was nobody. Then the YouTube-Master Showman bit came along and she became somebody. Interviewed in news programs and celebrity talk shows. Wow, kinda big time na.

And then for all you know, she — and her song — becomes a whole lot (in)famous, to the point that in last Saturday’s Eat Bulaga, she sang the Keys Me song three friggin’ times!

Kaya lang di kumpleto ang viewing pleasure ko kasi walang videoke treatment.

So if you wanna become famous, here’s a tip: either you put your video in YouTube… or audition in Philippine Idol. Take your pick.

Couch potato long weekend

Filed under: Uncategorized — kablagblog at 7:57 pm on Monday, July 3, 2006

Thank goodness for Pasig Day celebrations, they extended my rest day. But believe me, a lot of things happened to me during that weekend, most of which occured at home. Kaya nga couch potato e.

#1: Bionostalgia
And why not? My childhood was not complete without these five color-coded Japanese heroes. So much that my SO and I bought a complete DVD set of Bioman during the last ToyCon. English-dubbed pa.I had a chance to relive my childhood fantasy of being Pink 5. Yebba!

Watching the episodes was interesting, in an adult’s point of view. You get to notice things you never realized were glitches when you were young, such as:
    - When Kenny first transformed to Red 1, how did he know that those were the hand movements he was supposed to do?
    - In the episode before Casey’s death, she only was seen once, inside the Bio base.
    - In the episode where Casey died, the actress who portrayed Casey was nowhere in the episode. Lagi siyang naka-Yellow 4 hanggang sa namatay siya. We figured, walk out ito.
    - In June’s first appearance as the new Yellow 4, she already knew about the Neo Empire. Take note, she hasn’t received any briefing about Bioman’s nemesis prior to that. My sister figured that they may be wearing name tags that time.
    - The Biomen’s human identities are compromised. Maraming tao ang nakakaalam sa tunay nilang katauhan. Kahit yung kalaban. Unlike the Marvel/DC heroes. Or even Ultraman.
    - The Bio Robot’s weapons are limited to the laser sword and the missiles. Unlike Voltes V which had a smorgasbord of weapons and artillery.
    - These Japanese actors have perfected one facial and body expression: that of pain.
    - You can see the harness in some of the action scenes.

But I gotta give it to these sentai heroes. Without Bioman, what of our childhood?

Am not yet finished with this. Still have one more DVD weekend left. So this entry will probably have a continuation.

#2: Going kulot
Yup, I decided to opt for a wavy hairstyle. Am tired of my forever straight and layered tresses. So I had my mom call our personal taga-ayos ng buhok. So far, it looks okay. I just have to, like, not comb it too much. Gulo-gulo effect it is then. Next thing I know, my name is already Sisa.

#3: Pacquiao-Larios slugfest
Didn’t care much about the undercards, though there was one dirty Mexican fighter. But anyway, it kinda felt weird watching this fight. Somehow I felt something was amiss. I didn’t feel much excitement unlike, say, that of Lennox Lewis or Morales or whoever else. I think it had something to do with the channel. I was so used to watching boxing on Solar or channel 9.

Plus the fact that this fight had too much unnecessary publicity, if you ask me. It became too cheesy for me. I dunno, it’s probably me.

It kinda got boring for me too, when Pacquiao went past the sixth round. I’ve always said that Pacquiao is a finisher - he KOs his opponent in the middle of the game.

And yeah, at the back of my mind I wanted him to kinda lose. Not because I have this crab mentality, but because I think his head’s swelling a bit. Buti na lang matiyaga si Roach sa kanya. Besides, Larios is kinda nice. And cute, too.

#4: Hello Toys R Us
The only weekend happening outside the home. My SO and I were supposed to visit the newest Toys R Us in Galleria last Friday, but since he got out of the office late, we decided to drop by last Sunday.

That drab corner in the 4th floor was transformed into a colorful area, with Tom’s World beside it. Going inside Toys R Us was like walking into Megamall’s Toy Kingdom, except that it was almost twice its size (haven’t seen Mall of Asia’s Toy Kingdom yet; that’s the next agenda). Same, same. except that it had more Barbie and Bratz dolls, lots of those infant toys and puzzle games, and no perfect grade Gundam models. And my favorite "Hit the beach!" soldier is nowhere to be found (only a few of you know this one, I think he’s still there in Toy Kingdom). Aww, sad.

So there. That’s my weekend, not necesarrily in a nutshell. How was yours?
