The Bastard Moonchild’s demented thoughts and mundane stories

F$@^!#% ripoff

I know I have friends in GMA7, but I just had to let this one out.

Captain Barbell is a friggin’ ripoff of Smallville.

Didn’t Captain Barbell have his own identity? He wasn’t an alien; he was human who was chosen by that "spirit" of the barbell because he had a good heart. As far as I know when he’s human, he doesn’t have any powers. And Enteng and Captain Barbell are two different entities, not a hero with a human alterego/disguise.

I haven’t got the time to watch it (though I get to catch Love of the Condor Heroes in the bus with video on board), but based on the TV spots, it’s so similar to the Smallville storyline, complete with the car crash where Clark rescues Lex. Great. Just great.

In my opinion, the writers should have just stuck with the original premise in the comics. It’s very Filipino. And if they want to make the plot more "modernized," they could toy with the comics premise to make it more interesting for the present generation (meaning the 18 years old and below bracket). They didn’t have to copy, or to make it more subtle, be inspired by the Smallville story.

And coupled with a cheesy soundtrack (which sends shivers down my spine), Captain Barbell makes me believe that creativity is in the brink of death.

CPR, please.

Post Script: Congratulations, by the way, to Ipe and Kris. This greeting was supposed to be included in the previous post, but due to unforseen matters (I didn’t see my boss pass by, hehe), I immediately pressed the save button and therefore forgetting to write this bit. Stay happy and stay pretty. Uh yeah, that goes to both of you, hehe!
