The Bastard Moonchild’s demented thoughts and mundane stories

Violent reactions

Last night, I saw GMA7’s plug on how Mulawin the movie was praised by different entertainment columnists in both broadsheets and tabloids. I don’t remember everything, but the plug quoted the columnists as saying the movie was really good, that it had great cinematography, nice story and superb visual effects that could rival that of Hollywood.

My sister was grinning as I was repeating each phrase with disbelief. Come on! One has got to be blind to actually give the movie that kind of acclaim. Cinematography? Hello, one particular fight scene was actually yellowish, and you can just gasp at how Alwina and Aguiluz embrace each other while in flight. If that was reality, they would come crashing down the ground because the wind blown by their wings would be clashing with each other. Kaya nga may V-formation ang mga ibon, debba? Plus, the effects weren’t that much polished; you know they were shooting on green screen.

Story-wise, I had a hard time following it, especially on the first part. And my gosh, they should’ve just left Aguiluz dead. Why did the writers and the director decide to resurrect him with the help of the Encantadia people? All the drama is lost.

Visual effects? Now this one is so way off. Okay, so the dragon bit was acceptable — for Philippine standards, not Hollywood. Look, if this was okay to be Hollywood, how about Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings or King Kong? It must be amazing for Mars or the Andromeda galaxy!

Wondering why I rant about this as if I have the right? Well guess what, I WATCHED MULAWIN THE MOVIE over the Holiday break. For the sole reason that I wanted to support someone who worked behind the scenes. And no, not the director or the writers.

To be very honest, Exodus had better and more polished special effects, save for some scenes where you feel it came from a PS1 game and Bong Revilla’s stoic acting. Yes, I think it’s a special effect.

And yep, I watched Exodus too. For the same reason as Mulawin’s. Go say to the whole world I was pretty jologs last Christmas break.

Now, what to bash next…
