Mom: Reading The Da Vinci Code is blasphemous

… or so she says. Yesterday, while watching the new local series Encantadia (wow, now that’s a new low), there was one character, I think it was Pen Medina’s, who called the little girl a "Sang’gre." Yeah, that kinda reminded me of Dan Brown, ‘coz somewhere in The Da Vinci Code, they also used the word Sangre. So I told my sister that I think they got it from the book. My mom, who was watching with us, suddenly blurted out, "Nabasa mo yun? Blasphemous yun!"

Ooookay there. So then by reading the book I commit blasphemy? In my opinion, reading it is not bad per se. But letting it affect your faith is altogether a different thing. I’ve read some books that has already questioned the authenticity of some facts in my religion, or stated something really different from what I learned in Church or in my Christian Living and Theology classes. But you know, it all boils down to how strong your faith is. I believe that even if there are a lot of things that are being thrown at you, if your faith is strong, you won’t be easily swayed. True, there may be times that you get to say, "oo nga ano?" But if your faith is steadfast, you’ll know what to believe.

I must admit, there are times my faith wavers, especially when things just don’t go right. But people who care just change that. And I thank them for it.

Still, in this time of tribulation, I continue to pray my faith remains steadfast. Please pray for me, too. Thanks.
